Agent banned for five years after corrupt approach to county coach.
A well-known agent has been banned from “any cricket-related activity” that is under the purview of the ECB for five years by England’s Cricket Regulator. Moghees Ahmed, the leader of the International Cricketers Association, will be suspended for at least 30 months after it was decided that he had approached a county’s head coach corruptly.
Ahmed, who represents several well-known Pakistani players, had suggested a deal in March whereby a coach would get a portion of his fee in return for choosing specific players he represents in franchise leagues, according to a ruling by the Cricket Regulator. A tribunal was convinced that the approach had been made after the coach reported it later that day.
Ahmed’s registration as an agent was suspended after he was found guilty on four counts of violating the ECB’s anti-corruption policy. Since March 26, 2025, he has been “declared ineligible” for five years; the first thirty months have been served in full, and the remaining thirty months are suspended pending the completion of an anti-corruption education program and no other crimes.
“Moghees Ahmed sought to engage a professional county coach in a corrupt scheme which would have had serious consequences for the integrity of cricket in England and Wales and beyond,” Chris Haward, the director of the Cricket Regulator, said in a statement.
“This lengthy ban rightly reflects the seriousness of the conspiracy Ahmed sought to embark upon. Offering, seeking or taking illicit financial inducements for selection is never acceptable and strikes at the heart of the integrity of our sport. Where corrupt conduct is suspected, it will be investigated and those responsible will be held to account.
“This case came to light due to the courage of the coach and others who reported their concerns within moments of the corrupt offer being made. They have also greatly assisted the investigation and tribunal process and are commended for their conduct.”
