Amandine Miquel sacked by Leicester women ahead of WSL season opener which will take place in just 11 days.
According to the Guardian, Leicester City Women fired manager Amandine Miquel one week and a half before the Women’s Super League season started.
After being hired in July 2024, Miquel had been in charge for one season. He managed Leicester to finish in 10th position the previous season, keeping them out of relegation. The 41-year-old signed a three-year deal with Leicester after managing the French team Reims for seven years.
Several sources claim that the Leicester team was notified of the news on Wednesday night. On September 7, Leicester will travel to Manchester United to kick off their WSL season.
With five victories and five draws in her 22 WSL games, Miquel gave Leicester a two-point boost over their 18-point total from the previous season, guaranteeing their joint-highest finish.
Miquel’s retirement was announced 41 days after Leicester named Lee Billiard, a former Aston Villa director of women’s and girls’ football who held the position for four years, as the new director.
After Willie Kirk, Lydia Bedford, Jonathan Morgan, and Miquel, Leicester will be looking for their fifth permanent manager since December 2021.
After Liverpool hired Taylor, Manchester City hired Andrée Jeglertz to replace Gareth Taylor, and Tottenham hired Martin Ho to replace Robert Vilahamn, this is the fourth managerial change in the WSL this summer.
Half of the WSL clubs have changed their manager during the past 12 months, with Arsenal and Aston Villa also making changes.
