Amazon Warriors romp to GSL 2025 title as Rangpur Riders, the defending champions, fell 32 runs short of the target.
Gurbaz, Charles 60s and Pretorius three-for carry Amazon Warriors to GSL 2025 title.
The hosts, the Guyana Amazon Warriors, won the Global Super League title in Providence on Friday night thanks to a batting display that featured three very different innings and a collective bowling effort in which everyone of the main men made a significant contribution. They defeated the Rangpur Riders, who had taken first place in the first season, and a score of 197 would have appeared doable, but not after a 32 for 3 powerplay.
Ibrahim Zadran was run out in the first over, Dwaine Pretorius took the first of his three wickets, Soumya Sarkar, in the fifth over, and Moeen Ali contributed with the significant wicket of Kyle Mayers in the sixth.
With 73 runs for the fourth wicket in 44 balls, Saif Hassan and Iftikhar Ahmed led the comeback, but another run-out, this time of Saif, set off another downward spiral. Between the 13th and 17th overs, they went from 102 for 3 to 126 for 8, and they were unable to recover.
With the dismissals of Imran Tahir, who dismissed Nurul Hasan and Khaled Ahmed, and Azmatullah Omarzai, who top-scored with 46 from 29 balls, Pretorius orchestrated the dominance.
Despite throwing his bat around to get a 30-run score off of 17 balls, Mahidul Islam Ankon was unable to stop the Amazon Warriors from winning the championship.
Gudakesh Motie also claimed two wickets for the Amazon Warriors, while Akeal Hosein, the only front-line bowler without a wicket, gave up just 24 runs in his four overs.
