Man Utd won’t sell players on the cheap – Amorim.
Ruben Amorim feels rival teams may be in for a “shock” if they believe they can get cheap deals this summer on Manchester United’s unwanted players.
At the beginning of preseason, Amorim banished his so-called “bomb squad,” which included Tyrrell Malacia, Antony, Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, and Alejandro Garnacho.
The other four are still at the club and have been instructed to train back at Carrington after being left out of United’s squad for the three-game Premier League Summer Series in the United States, while Rashford has already finalised his “dream” move to Barcelona.
While Juventus is interested in Sancho but must first offload players, and Garnacho has been linked to a number of teams, Real Betis is still eager to bring back Antony following the Brazilian’s stellar season-long loan.
However, no agreements are in the works, and it is still believed that suitors will hold off until the last few days of the transfer window, which ends on September 1st, in the hopes that the price will decrease.
Amorim cautioned that won’t be the case and that those players will return if necessary.
“[Technical director] Jason [Wilcox], [chief executive] Omar Berrada and the club have a number for these players,” said Amorim.
“If they don’t reach that, they will be Manchester United players, no doubt about that.
“Some players have to find a new place so we have more space in the team and other players clearly show they want a new challenge and want new teams.
“We are just allowing these players to have time to think and to decide.
“I understand the clubs are waiting for the last minute but they can have a surprise. I’m ready to receive the players.”
New hires Despite the arrival of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Diego Leon this summer, United still wants a striker and a holding midfielder to cover Amorim’s squad’s obvious shortcomings.
Even if that may not occur, the former Sporting manager maintains that he would be content if he had to play Arsenal in the season’s first match with the squad he currently possesses.
“At the moment, our club needs to be really careful when we sign a player,” he added.
“So if we have to start the season with this squad, I’m happy because all the players that are here want to be here – and that for me is the most important thing.”
