Amorim insistent on Mainoo being Man United’s future superstar and said ‘everything can change in two days.’
Amorim insistent on the fact that estranged midfielder Kobbie Mainoo will have a bigger role in the season.
According to Ruben Amorim, Kobbie Mainoo is “the future of Manchester United,” and the 20-year-old’s flexibility makes it more likely that he will join the club in the near future.
Amorim gave Mainoo, who hasn’t started in any of United’s 17 Premier League games, his strongest support to date despite Mainoo’s calf issue keeping him out of Newcastle’s Boxing Day visit to Old Trafford.
The head coach said: “He is going to be the future of Manchester United. That is my feeling. So you [Mainoo] just need to wait for each chance and everything can change in football in two days. He will have the opportunity that he has all the time to force his way in.”
“The position of Casemiro [No 6], he can do it. He can play if we play with three in midfield. He can play like we play in the position of Mason Mount [No 10].”
Although the United management does not want to sell Mainoo, Amorim stated last month that he was open to a loan for him. However, he has since stated that a move would only be feasible if a replacement were signed. “It is difficult to leave if we are not getting someone,” he remarked.
Mainoo might play more when healthy because Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo, two potential No. 10s, are at the Africa Cup of Nations while United captain Bruno Fernandes is sidelined for an extended amount of time due to an injury.
“We can play a different way to take more quality from these players because I have the feeling that if we have to play a perfect 3-4-3 we need to spend a lot of money and we need time. I’m starting to understand that is not going to happen so maybe I have to adapt.”
