Anderson named Lancashire skipper for County season, extends commitment to long-term club as he takes over four-day reins.
James Anderson named as Lancashire’s Championship captain.
After been named Lancashire’s full-time captain for their County Championship campaign, James Anderson will be assuming a new role in his 44th year next summer.
Following Keaton Jennings’ departure in May of last year, Anderson, 43, was named Lancashire’s regular four-day captain after serving as an interim captain twice during the team’s 2025 campaign.
Anderson has shown no signs of ending a Lancashire career that started as a teenager in 2002, even though he retired from Test cricket in July 2024 with an England record 704 Test wickets to his name and was later knighted.
Josh Bohannon will continue to serve as the club’s vice-captain after being appointed in 2024, while Jennings will continue to lead the Vitality Blast, a format in which Anderson thrived in 2025, taking 20 wickets at 16.10 in the team’s advancement to Finals Day.
“Captaining Lancashire for the first time last season was a huge privilege, and I’m honoured to take on the role full-time heading into the new season,” Anderson said.
“We’ve got a fantastic group of players, a great blend of youth and experience, and I’m excited about what we can achieve together with promotion back to Division One our number one priority.”
