Andhra name former New Zealand head coach Gary Stead as their new coach for the upcoming 2025/26 domestic season.
Tinu Yohannan has been replaced as Andhra’s head coach for the 2025–2026 domestic campaign by Gary Stead. Stead led the New Zealand men’s side to the 2021 World Test Championship championship while serving as its head coach from 2018 until June 2025. Earlier this year, Yohannan relocated to the MRF Pace Foundation.
“Andhra cricket enters a new era under his guidance, aiming for bigger milestones and top-tier performances this season,” the Andhra Cricket Association wrote on social media.
With three global limited-overs final appearances (2019 ODI World Cup, 2021 T20 World Cup, and 2025 Champions Trophy) and a historic 3-0 Test series victory in India, Stead, 53, is New Zealand’s most successful coach. Prior to that, he had led New Zealand Women to the 2010 T20 World Cup final and the 2009 ODI World Cup final. From 2013 to 2017, he also led Canterbury to three championships and a final in the Plunket Shield, the domestic red-ball competition in New Zealand.
He played for New Zealand in five Test matches, scoring 278 runs at an average of 34.75. Additionally, he participated in 103 List A games and 101 First-Class games, scoring 2173 and 4984 runs, respectively.
With just one decisive victory from seven games, Andhra placed sixth in their group for the 2024–25 Ranji Trophy. They also lost in the preliminary quarterfinal of the 20-over Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and were unable to advance to the knockout stages of the 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy.
On October 15, Andhra will play Uttar Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy to kick off the 2025–26 season.
