Ange named new Nottingham Forest manager, finding himself back in work three months after Spurs exit in summer.
Ange Postecoglou appointed Nottingham Forest head coach after Nuno’s sacking.
Nuno Espírito Santo will be replaced as head coach of Nottingham Forest by Ange Postecoglou. Three months after being fired by Tottenham, the Australian is back at work, with a contract that is reportedly set to expire in 2027.
Postecoglou, who won the Europa League with Spurs in May before being fired 16 days later, now has the chance to aim for the trophy again with his hire. After Crystal Palace was denied admittance by Uefa, Forest is now in the competition.
Born in Greece, Postecoglou has a personal link with Evangelos Marinakis, the Greek owner of Forest, whose relationship with Nuno soured and resulted in the Portuguese leaving. Marinakis has shown his appreciation for Postecoglou in the past.
Marinakis said on Tuesday of Postecoglou’s appointment: “We are bringing a coach to the club who has a proven and consistent record of winning trophies. His experience of coaching teams at the highest level, along with his desire to build something special with us at Forest, makes him a fantastic person to help us on our journey and achieve consistently all our ambitions.
“After gaining promotion to the Premier League, then building consistently season after season to secure European football, we now must take the right step to compete with the very best and challenge for trophies. Ange has the credentials and the track record to do this, and we are excited he is joining us on our ambitious journey.”
Postecoglou’s first match is against Arsenal on Saturday, and the City Ground will host a reunion with Spurs in the middle of December. After losing 22 games and finishing 17th in the Premier League, Spurs fired him. For a large portion of the season, it looked as though Forest would make it into the Champions League when Nuno guided them to seventh place.
Although Postecoglou modified his strategy to assist deliver the Europa League, his historically daring style of play stands in stark contrast to Nuno’s more practical counterattacking strategy at Forest. Before January, no signings will be possible because the transfer window is closed.
