Antonin Kinsky signs for Spurs from Slavia Prague as 21-year-old Czech signs deal up to 2031 amounting to £12.5m.
Antonin Kinsky of Slavia Prague is the first signing of the January transfer window for Spurs. The 21-year-old goalkeeper completed a medical at Tottenham on Saturday and has signed a contract until 2031 with the deal worth £12.5m, plus add-ons.
Since breaking his ankle in the team’s 4-0 victory over Manchester City on November 23, Spurs have been without their starting goalie, Guglielmo Vicario, who is expected to be out until the end of February.
Fraser Forster originally filled in well, but due to an injury issue, Tottenham has only won two of their past 11 games across all competitions, and the England international was ill and missed Saturday’s 2-1 loss at home to Newcastle. Brandon Austin was forced into the starting lineup for his club debut as a result, but now that the window is open, the north London club has acted swiftly to bolster Ange Postecoglou’s thin roster.
“It’s been amazing to sign the contract,” said Kinsky, whose father, Antonin Sr, won five Czech Republic caps as a goalkeeper. “Tottenham is a big name in Europe, especially in the Czech Republic so for me it is a big honour. I spoke with the coaches and the sporting director and I really got the feeling this is going to be the right choice. I like to play a lot with my feet. I’m looking forward to training, hopefully for the games. That’s the aim of every player, to be on the pitch.
“My father has been a big role model for me. He’s involved in every decision I make. He told me this is a big chance to go for it.”
In 29 games this season, the Czech Republic Under-21s player has maintained 14 clean sheets for Slavia Prague. Kinsky began his career at Dukla Prague before moving across town to join Slavia in 2021. He has since established himself as a regular after loan stints with Vyskov and Pardubice, but he will now continue his career in England.
