Arteta baying for revenge as Arsenal face Villa at home in a clash that has huge title implications for both sides.
Arteta wants every team to ‘suffer’ at Arsenal with revenge on mind against Villa.
As Arsenal hosts Aston Villa on Tuesday night in an exciting top-of-the-table match in an attempt to get revenge for their “cruel” loss in the reverse game this month, Mikel Arteta has stated that he wants every visiting club to suffer at the Emirates Stadium.
Three weeks ago, Emi Buendía’s last kick in the 95th minute gave Arteta’s league leaders a 2-1 loss at Villa Park. Despite having trouble eliminating opponents, Arsenal has won five games across all competitions since becoming undefeated. In their last three home games against Wolves, Crystal Palace, and Brighton on Saturday, they tried a total of 65 shots, but they only managed five goals, four of which were converted into their own net by opponents.
On Saturday, Villa overcame a deficit to defeat Chelsea for the eleventh time in a row, matching a club record that has been in place for more than a century.
When Matty Cash’s opening goal was cancelled out by Leandro Trossard, Arsenal appeared to have secured a point in an equal match at Villa Park. However, Buendía’s late goal gave Arteta’s team just their second Premier League loss of the year.
Asked whether his side were profiting from good fortune in the form of so many own goals, Arteta said: “Well, that’s what we want – that every opponent that comes here suffers.”
“We’ll watch it back,” said Arteta. “I have a few ideas and things that we have to do better. And it was quite cruel, as well, the way we lost it. But yeah, we learned from it.”
On whether reliving the defeat could inspire his players, he added: “If you use that motivation and that hunger in the right manner, for sure.”
