Asencio and three former youth players to face trial over alleged sharing of explicit video in Gran Canaria in 2023.
Real Madrid defender Raúl Asencio to stand trial over alleged sharing of explicit video.
Three former Real Madrid youth players and defender Raúl Asencio will go on trial for allegedly recording and disseminating sexual recordings of two women, one of whom was underage at the time.
Three defendants are charged with “one count of distributing child pornography, as well as two offences against privacy,” according to court documents. A bail of €20,000 (£17,400) has been set for each of them. The fourth, believed to be Asencio, has been charged with two privacy violations and has been granted €15,000 bail.
On Thursday, the court authorities declared that the case will go to trial. The episode, which is said to have involved two women, ages 18 and 16, and occurred in a private section of a beach club on the Spanish island of Gran Canaria on June 15, 2023, is the subject of a police and court inquiry.
According to reports, prosecutors are requesting that Asencio receive a sentence of two years and six months, while the other three—who have been identified in the media as Andrés García, Ferran Ruiz, and Juan Rodríguez—be given terms of four years and seven months. While Asencio has not been named in the lawsuit of one of the alleged victims, the other has accused all four defendants.
Three unidentified Real Madrid reserve players were detained in September 2023 in relation to the alleged event; however, they were later freed once the information on their cell phones was confiscated.
In comments released after the judge concluded a pre-trial investigation, Asencio said he had “never taken part in any behaviour that has threatened any woman’s sexual freedom, much less that of a minor”. He said he had not been involved in recording or distributing the videos, and had only “briefly seen the content”
