Aston Villa Women to decide about manager de Pauw’s future after winning just one of their last nine games.
Aston Villa Women are considering the future of their manager, Robert de Pauw.
After losing to Arsenal 4-0 on the road in the Women’s Super League on Sunday, the Midlands team is now one point above the relegation zone and ninth in the standings. In his first nine English football league games as manager, De Pauw has only managed one win.
Multiple reports claim that De Pauw’s status was discussed by the club’s senior personnel on Tuesday. It is now unclear if he will continue to be in charge for Wednesday’s League Cup Group E match against Charlton Athletic, a Championship team. Villa, who trail Tottenham in the group, still has a good chance of making it to the quarterfinals before Wednesday’s final group-stage games.
It is also known that De Pauw skipped Tuesday’s regular training session for the team. We have reached out to Aston Villa for comment.
The 43-year-old took over as Villa’s manager in June after agreeing to a three-year contract with a one-year extension option. He previously managed Bayer Leverkusen, a German women’s team that finished sixth in the Frauen-Bundesliga last season after placing fifth the year before.
After a stint coaching in the Dutch national setup’s junior level, he managed FC Twente in his native Netherlands before to that two-season stint in Germany. In 2022, he won a domestic double.
Carla Ward, the former manager of Aston Villa, was replaced by De Pauw. During her three years in charge, the team finished tenth, fifth, and seventh in those three seasons.
