Australia has made a confirmed change to their playing XI for the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against India in Adelaide. After suffering a heavy 295-run defeat in the first Test, the team has made a strategic change to their bowling attack.
Scott Boland has been called up to replace the injured Josh Hazlewood, who suffered a side strain during the first Test in Perth. Hazlewood’s absence is a significant blow, but Boland, who boasts impressive figures in Australian conditions, is expected to step up seamlessly. Boland’s home Test record is excellent, with 28 wickets in six matches at an average of just 12.21. He has also performed well in day-night Tests, with seven wickets from two matches at an average of 13.71.
Alongside Boland, the rest of the squad remains unchanged. Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney will continue to open the batting, with Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Travis Head, and Mitchell Marsh forming the middle order. Alex Carey will keep wicket, while the bowling department will feature Pat Cummins leading the pace attack, supported by Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon, Australia’s premier spinner.
Mitchell Marsh, who appeared sore after his bowling effort in Perth, is expected to be fit for the Adelaide Test and will be available to bowl if needed.
With Hazlewood sidelined and a critical second Test ahead, Australia will look to level the series at 1-1 before the third Test in Brisbane.
Australia’s decision to bring in Scott Boland in place of the injured Josh Hazlewood adds a fresh dynamic to their pace attack for the second Test. Boland’s excellent home record gives the team confidence in his ability to perform under pressure, particularly with the pink ball, which tends to offer more movement for fast bowlers.
Australia will be hoping that this change in their playing XI helps them recover from their heavy loss in the first Test and put up a strong challenge against India in Adelaide. With a lot at stake in the second Test, all eyes will be on Boland’s performance as the team aims to level the series.
