[Saba Sports News] Australia, currently engaged in a riveting five-match T20I series against India, have opted to shake up its squad by releasing six key players. Notably, these players were instrumental in Australia’s recent triumph at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
Among the released players are Steve Smith, Adam Zampa, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Josh Inglis and Sean Abbott, all set to return to Australia after spending around 60 days in India. Travis Head, the hero of the ODI World Cup 2023 final, remains the sole World Cup 2023 winning team member, who will stay in India and is expected to make his series debut on Tuesday.
Steve Smith and Adam Zampa have already traveled back to Australia, whille the other four players will take the flight on Wednesday.
The revised squad sees the inclusion of four players – Josh Philippe, Ben McDermott, Ben Dwarshuis and Chris Green – who will be available for the remaining T20Is. While Philippe and McDermott have already joined the squad in Guwahati for the third T20I, Dwarshuis and Green are set to link up with the team in Raipur ahead of the fourth T20I.
With only 13 players now left in the squad led by Matthew Wade for the final two matches, the 2021 T20I champions face an intriguing challenge as they strive to bounce back in the series, currently trailing 2-0.
