The 27-year-old’s illness is not thought to be life-threatening, and it is known that the coma will assist control his heart rate and limit his mobility.
After colliding with a post late in the game against the Foxes, Awoniyi was treated for a few minutes before being permitted to play again. He was taken to the hospital for treatment after the club’s medical team disclosed the severity of his condition on Monday.
Forest had stated that he was “recovering well” on Tuesday afternoon. The Midlands team also claimed that rumours of a fight with Nuno Espírito Santo were “fake news,” citing the severity of Awoniyi’s injury as justification for owner Evangelos Marinakis’s rushing onto the field following the game.
