Axar suffers injury scare in Capitals’ loss to KKR, but plays down the severity of the blow he suffered to his hand.
Axar suffers an injury scare after getting a heavy blow to his left hand.
The incident took place in the 18th over of the first innings. At full length, Axar leaped to field a ball that Rovman Powell had hit in his direction off legspinner Vipraj Nigam’s bowling. He flinched in agony and hurried off the pitch to get medical attention from DC’s head physiotherapist, Patrick Farhat.
While he was eventually declared fit to bat, the skipper’s pain was evident for all to see as he was in discomfort throughout his stay in the middle. Despite the pain however, he batted valiantly as he scored a breezy 43 of 23 balls.
However, his knock was not enough to prevent his side from another defeat, as Delhi eventually fell short by 14 runs chasing 204.
Axar plays down injury scare
However, Axar eventually played down the seriousness of the injury in the post-match presentation.
“I dragged my palm across the [practice] wicket,” Axar said at the end of the game which DC lost, “So my skin peeled off. Whenever I tried to hit the ball and the handle brushed [the hand], I felt a lot of pain but the good thing is we have a three-four day break. Then we play SRH. It would be great if it gets alright by then”
Heading into their next match, on May 5 against Sunrisers Hyderabad, DC sat fourth in the table, with six wins out of 10 in Axar’s first season as their permanent captain.
