Bangladesh fan Tiger Robi has provided an update on his health and clarified the events from day one of the India vs Bangladesh Test in Kanpur.
Wearing his signature tiger costume, Robi was present from the start of the day, but his time in the stadium was cut short when he had to be hospitalized. Initial reports suggested that Robi had been assaulted by locals before police intervened.
In a viral video, Robi is seen struggling to speak while pointing to injuries on his body, surrounded by police and medical staff before being taken to a nearby hospital.
Robi initially claimed he was assaulted, but Uttar Pradesh police quickly denied this, stating that his health had deteriorated due to dehydration, and he was admitted to Regency Hospital.
Robi has since retracted his earlier claim, confirming that his hospitalization was due to health issues. In an update from his hospital bed, Robi said, “My health deteriorated, and police brought me to the hospital for treatment. I am feeling better now.” He also mentioned that he hails from the Khulna district of Bangladesh.
As for the match, rain marred the opening day, limiting play to 35 overs. Bangladesh reached 107/3 by stumps, with Akash Deep dismissing openers Zakir Hasan (2) and Shadman Islam (24). Mominul Haque and Najmul Hossain Shanto put together a 51-run stand before Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed Shanto for 31.
