Bangladesh government removes BCB director hours after election with his political links touted to be the factor.
Following the announcement of the election results on Monday, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) was instantly embroiled in controversy. Ishfaq Ahsan, one of the recently elected directors, was dismissed by the administration in a matter of hours. His tenure on the BCB board was brief, but he was one of two government representatives.
The National Sports Council, which regulates sports in the nation, was compelled to act in this way because of Ahsan’s political connections. “On Tuesday, a new director will be appointed. “We have dismissed him due to his political affiliations,” NSC executive director Kazi Nazrul Islam informed reporters on Monday.
He will probably be replaced with a female board director appointed by the NSC.
On Monday, a hotel in Dhaka hosted a day-long BCB election that included both paper ballots and electronic ones. The president, Aminul Islam, was re-elected. He will serve as the head of the BPL, grounds, and working committees. Khaled Mashud, a former captain of Bangladesh, takes over as director of the High Performance centre.
Abdur Razzak, a former spinner for Bangladesh and a new director, was appointed chairman of the women’s wing. Ishtiaque Sadeuque will take over as chairman of game development, and Nazmul Abedeen will remain chairman of cricket operations. The well-known singer Asif Akbar will now lead Bangladesh’s age-group cricket team.
