BCB issues show cause notice to Nazmul Islam but Bangladesh players firm on boycott.
M Nazmul Islam, the director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, received a show-cause notice on Wednesday for making “objectionable comments” in public about the nation’s cricket players.
The players’ organisation CWAB has called for a statewide boycott of all kinds of cricket unless Islam tendered his resignation, however the notice arrived a few hours before the BPL matches were supposed to begin that day.
The BCB was quite concerned when the four Dhaka Cricket League first-division games that were planned for the day failed to begin on Thursday morning. The players from Chattogram Royals and Noakhali Express, who were scheduled to participate in Thursday’s opening BPL game, are adhering to the boycott.
“The board has already initiated formal disciplinary proceedings against the board member concerned,” the BCB statement read. “A show cause letter has been issued, and the individual has been instructed to submit a written response within 48 hours. The matter will be dealt with through due process and appropriate action will be taken based on the outcome of the proceedings.”
Late on Wednesday night, a few board members made contact with Mohammad Mithun, the president of the CWAB, and offered to force Nazmul to resign from his position as head of the financial committee. However, Mithun stated that the cricket players’ demand for the boycott was still in effect.
At 12:30 PM local time on Thursday, the first BPL match will be tossed. Following the match’s start time, the CWAB leaders are expected to conduct a news conference where they will present the BCB with their demands, which include the director’s resignation.
