Bangladesh look to end on a high in climactic tour finale.
During the white-ball portion of this tour, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have tied thrice. After winning the second match of the ODI series, they were unable to maintain their momentum and lost the third match by almost 100 runs. By winning the second game to make it 1-1, Bangladesh has now similarly set up the T20I series. This is your opportunity to set things right.
Only their second T20I victory in eight games in 2025 came when Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka by 83 runs in the most recent match. They did, however, gain a clear understanding of their optimal strategy from the format: relying on teamwork rather than individual skill. A team that lacks superstars in any kind must assemble a group of performers.
Litton Das’s comeback will undoubtedly boost the team’s morale. After 13 innings, the Bangladesh T20I captain reached his first half-century with 76 off 50. Although his stats could indicate that he was an anchor, he was attacking in each of his partnerships with Shamim Hossain and Towhid Hridoy. Bangladesh will aim for a similar strategy, with a strong end to their batting innings and at least two or three significant partnerships.
The action now shifts back to the R Premadasa Stadium, where the pitch now has a batting-first score comparable to the Shere Bangla National Stadium during night games. The familiarity wouldn’t bother Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka has to recover after being bowled out for 94, their lowest-ever home T20I total. When they lost the second game but came back with a resounding victory, they might learn from their ODI series strategy. They would need their top order to perform well once more, like Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka did when they set up their maiden T20I victory, for that to occur.
With regard to bowling choices, captain Charith Asalanka must also make sure his XI is balanced and not overly imbalanced. While players like Dasun Shanaka and Chamika Karunaratne must contribute with the bat, he would also anticipate runs from Kusal Perera and Avishka Fernando.
Because legspinner Jeffrey Vandersay hasn’t performed well in the series thus far, Asalanka has been missing Wanindu Hasaranga.
However, Bangladesh’s spinners will continue to be a threat. After missing seven months of Twenty20 Internationals, Rishad Hossain claimed three wickets. Both Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are preparing for what is expected to be a spectacular tour finale.
