Bangladesh take ascendancy against Ireland despite pause in play after 5.5 magnitude earthquake halts play.
On the third morning of the second Test match between Bangladesh and Ireland, a 5.5 magnitude earthquake temporarily halted play at the Shere Bangla National Stadium.
At approximately 10.38 a.m. local time, during the 56th over, the players and match officials congregated close to the pitch for approximately three minutes. Many individuals, including those in the five-story media centre, fled the stadium. Soon after, play started, but it took some time for everyone to get back in their seats.
With Jordan Neill not out on 24 and Lorcan Tucker undefeated on 56, Ireland finished the thrilling match at 211 for 7. During the session, Bangladesh claimed two wickets.
Tucker and rookie Stephen Doheny scored frequent boundaries as Ireland got off to a strong start in the smog of Mirpur. Doheny hit Hasan Murad for two consecutive fours before Tucker hammered two more in the ensuing overs. Tucker began with beautiful cover drives against Ebadot Hossain and Taijul Islam.
Taijul removed Doheny shortly after the break in play with an excellent delivery that was pitched up and struck off stump. With four boundaries, he scored 46 off 77 balls. After a single ball, Taijul produced a duck that sped into the left-hand batter’s off stump, dismissing Andy McBrine.
Towards the close of the session, Neill scored two more boundaries off Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Murad after taking consecutive boundaries off Taijul.
Thanks to the centuries of Litton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim, Bangladesh had previously established a substantial total. Litton led the way with 128 off 192 balls, including four sixes and eight fours. Given the pressure to perform well in his 100th Test, Mushfiqur’s 106 was a more cautious effort. During his 214-ball tenure, he hit five sixes.
Additionally, Bangladesh produced three successive century partnerships for the fourth, fifth, and sixth wickets, respectively: 107, 108, and 123.
