BCB planning to introduce revenue-sharing model for BPL.
In an attempt to help the teams from the previous season that haven’t paid their players in full, they will use revenue sharing for the first time in the BPL’s history. The decision was made on Monday in Dhaka at the BPL’s governing council meeting.
Last season, Durbar Rajshahi’s foreign players boycotted a game due to BPL payment problems, bringing the payment dilemma to light. Additionally, their local players protested non-payment of fees by skipping a training session during the event. Some of the international players were left stranded in their Dhaka team hotel near the end of the tournament due to the franchise’s payment delay.
In theory, the BCB has chosen to divide the tournament ticket sales among the seven franchises based on where they finish in the standings. The four clubs that made it to the playoffs the previous season will receive BDT 5.5 million, or roughly $45,000, while the teams that didn’t will receive BDT 4.5 million, or roughly $36,000.
A few conditions regarding the amount have been set by the BPL’s governing council. In addition, the BCB threatened to take legal action against the franchises that continue to miss payments.
BCB statement on Revenue sharing
“This is the first time that the BCB will distribute revenue from ticket sales to BPL franchises,” a BCB statement said. “The disbursement, scheduled ahead of Eid-ul-Adha, will be conditional upon the verification of payment acknowledgments from the respective players.”
“The final disbursement amount for each franchise will be determined proportionally, based on the percentage of outstanding player payments they have cleared relative to their eligible share,” the statement read.
“In addition, the Governing Council has decided to pursue legal action against any franchise that continues to default on payment obligations despite repeated official notices. This decision reflects the BCB’s commitment to ensuring contractual accountability and maintaining the integrity of the league.”
