BCB waiting on Shakib’s bowling action results from Chennai as they wait on further clarity on his suspect action.
BCB waiting the result of a second test of his bowling action from Chennai in India. He earlier failed his previous assessment from UK’s Loughborough University that had left him suspended from bowling in top-flight domestic and international cricket.
In September, Shakib was accused of acting suspiciously during a county game in England. The ECB took action as a result, and his suspension was immediately accepted and enforced by the ICC in international cricket as well as by all national cricket federations in their separate domestic competitions in line with clause 11.3 of the ICC’s regulations for illegal bowling actions.
In addition to delaying the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s announcement of their Champions Trophy roster, Shakib is anticipating a response from the Chennai centre in a day or two. Board president Faruque Ahmed stated that he wants Shakib back on the team, hence Shakib is being considered. Additionally, it was recently revealed that Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto approved Shakib’s return for ODIs.
Since playing the two Test matches in India last year, Shakib has not participated in any international cricket matches. Due to student protests, he was unable to visit Bangladesh. On August 5, the Awami League government, of which Shakib was a member of parliament, resigned in response to the student-led revolution in Bangladesh.
However, Shakib was reported for alleged action in England following the two Test matches in India. In December, the suspension was implemented. In order to comply with Bangladesh’s interim government, the BCB was also considering his prospects for selection, therefore he was already playing franchise cricket in the UAE and Sri Lanka.
Gazi Ashraf Hossain, the top selector for the BCB, stated on Wednesday that he had heard that Shakib had completed a second bowling action test in Chennai, but he was unable to verify the specifics.
“It was very shocking to hear that Shakib couldn’t pass the bowling action test [at Loughborough],” Gazi said. “I will have to find out whether he has tested himself again. We have to wait for this information. The board hasn’t instructed us fully on Shakib. I think every minute counts. I am sure we can clarify this in a day or two.”
Mohammad Salahuddin meanwhile said that he has given some tips over a video call to Shakib in the last few weeks to help him correct his bowling action issue.
“He already went through the test,” Salahuddin told Jamuna TV on Tuesday. “I know the A-Z of Shakib’s bowling. Obviously I couldn’t go and train him (in India). I think he knows what to do. We discussed a few things about what he has to do with his arm. We don’t need a big change in his bowling action. He can do it quickly too. But when an allegation comes, a person usually has to think about it.”
