BCCI AGM to focus on appointing new Secretary appointment after Jay Shah’s recent election as ICC chairman.
BCCI AGM will turn it’s focus to appoint a new Secretary to replace the outgoing Jay Shah.
In order to facilitate a seamless transition, attendees at the BCCI’s 93rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Bengaluru on Sunday asked current secretary Jay Shah to expedite the process of selecting his replacement. In order to assume leadership of the ICC for a three-year term beginning on December 1, Shah is anticipated to relinquish his position during the final week of November.
Although choosing a new secretary was not on the agenda for the AGM, it has been discovered that the participants talked among themselves about the succession plan.
“It was a normal request to keep all due processes in place at the earliest as [then] there will be clarity for us.” A state association representative who attended the AGM told PTI.
Currently, candidates for Shah’s successor include Gujarat Cricket Association secretary Anil Patel. BCCI treasurer Ashish Shelar, joint-secretary Devajit Saikia, and president of the Delhi and District Cricket Association Rohan Jaitley.
The appointment of India’s two ICC representatives was the main agenda item for the AGM. Shah now represents the BCCI on the ICC Board. Arun Dhumal, the chairman of the Indian Premier League, fills the same position on the Chief Executives’ Committee.
The members of the general body were tasked by the AGM with proposing two names as soon as possible.
Both Arun Dhumal and Avishek Dalmiya were voted as general body delegates to the IPL Governing Council (GC). Dhumal will remain the league’s chairman until at least IPL 2025.
The Indian Cricketers Association (ICA) nominated former Andhra cricketer V Chamundeswarnath as a player representative. He was subsequently given induction into the IPL GC.
