BCCI forms committee to prevent incidents like Bengaluru stampede.
In order to prevent tragedies like the stampede outside Chinnaswamy Stadium, where 11 supporters perished during celebrations the day after Royal Challengers Bengaluru won their first IPL title, the BCCI has created a committee to create recommendations.
Within 15 days, the committee, which is made up of three senior BCCI officials—secretary Devajit Saikia, vice-president Rajiv Shukla, and treasurer Prabhtej Singh Bhatia—will develop the guidelines.
Many supporters gathered to celebrate and see the RCB squad with the IPL trophy during a victory parade and inside Chinnaswamy Stadium on the afternoon of June 4, although the BCCI had not yet released an official statement regarding the tragedy.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah ordered a probe into the events that led to the stampede and directed Bengaluru police to arrest RCB and DNA Entertainment officials after the tragedy. Nikhil Sosale, the head of marketing and revenue for the RCB, was arrested by police in Bengaluru on June 6 along with two DNA personnel. On June 13, they were all released on bail.
Secretary A Shankar and Treasurer ES Jairam, two high-ranking officials of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), had resigned, alleging “moral responsibility” for the rush.
