BCCI hopeful of swift IPL 2025 resumption amid border tensions.
Speculation about a potential window to finish the remaining matches of season 18 has exploded since the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the suspension of the IPL. Two possible dates are August, when India is scheduled to tour Bangladesh, and September, when the Asia Cup is scheduled. However, if you question the proper BCCI people, they may suggest a schedule that doesn’t go past May.
“We have suspended the league for one week. We are not looking beyond that at this stage,” a highly-placed source in the BCCI told “We are serious about it. Watch out for the next three days.”
The BCCI statement reads like this: “The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the remainder of the ongoing TATA IPL 2025 with immediate effect for one week. Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders.”
If that thorough statement were to be carefully examined, it might imply that the BCCI is optimistic—or perhaps subtly confident—that the border tensions that caused the suspension will soon subside. Regardless, it conveys an optimistic attitude. The board is strongly focused on the current month and intends to finish the remaining 16 matches in a condensed 12-day span.
The board would expedite the schedule with a few double headers if there is a ceasefire in the border in the coming days, which is obviously a requirement for the IPL to resume. However, the scenario can be considered a force majeure if tensions do not subside quickly. For the record, the decision was made during the brief online meeting of the Governing Council on Friday at approximately 10.45 a.m. The fact that the government has been consulted, however, is obvious.
