BCCI lodges complaint with ICC against Farhan and Rauf.
For their on-field gestures during last Sunday’s Asia Cup Super Fours match in Dubai, Pakistani cricketers Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan have been officially complained about by the BCCI to the ICC. According to reliable sources, the ICC has received the protest that the BCCI sent via email on Wednesday.
An ICC hearing could be held to discuss the subject if Farhan and Rauf submit written denials of the accusations. They could have to show up before match referee Richie Richardson, who is the tournament’s second match referee after Andy Pycroft.
Since that day, the BCCI has been complaining about two incidences on social media: Farhan’s celebration after reaching his half-century and Rauf’s gesture towards a group of supporters when fielding at the boundary.
“Let me first say, the amount of pressure that’s been heaped on the players because of the situation, it’s very difficult to control your behaviour,” India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate said on Tuesday when asked about Haris’ provocative gestures.
“I did see some of the things Haris did and that’s not our concern. Like I said earlier, we’re really proud of how the guys carried themselves. They fought fire with their bats on the field. Other teams may have had issues with some of the things we’ve done. But from our side, we’re proud of how the guys have carried themselves.”
In addition, Suryakumar Yadav has been the target of an official complaint from the PCB to the ICC for dedicating the victory over Pakistan in the opening round on September 14 to “the families of the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack” in April of this year, which sparked tensions across the border between India and Pakistan.
Suryakumar’s remarks were deemed “political” by the PCB.
India openers Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill and Pakistan quicks Shaheen Shah Afridi and Rauf engaged in a number of heated exchanges during Sunday’s Super Fours match, the two nations’ second Asia Cup encounter.
