Beckham and Minnesota United enter in social media battle following the latter’s attempt to throw shade over Inter Miami.
Beckham and Minnesota United went on a verbal spat on social media.
Although Minnesota United crushed David Beckham’s star-studded Inter Miami 4-1, the former England captain took issue with the opposition’s social media activities and immediately went to the comments area.
The defeat on Saturday was the most significant Inter has experienced since Lionel Messi, an eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, joined the team in July 2023.
Messi, 37, the captain of Argentina, scored in the second half, but Inter lost for the fourth time in their last five games across all competitions.
In reference to Miami’s uniform colour and the Chappell Roan song Pink Pony Club, Minnesota shared a picture from the game on Instagram with the caption “Pink Phoney Club” following their victory at home.
A screenshot of the league standings that showed Minnesota rising above Inter was also shared.
Beckham, who co-owns the Major League Soccer club, commented on the post, writing: “Show a little respect, be elegant in triumph.”
Minnesota, who are managed by Welshman Eric Ramsay, then posted a picture of a banner from the game that read: “History over hype, culture over cash”, with the words “hype and cash” highlighted in pink.
Beckham, a 50-year-old former midfielder for Manchester United, Real Madrid, and LA Galaxy, once more left a remark on the page, saying, “Respect over everything.”
Inter lost in the first round of the playoffs after winning the Supporters’ Shield for the best regular season record the previous season.
They are now fourth in the MLS Eastern Conference after losing in the Concacaf Champions Cup semi-finals despite hiring veteran Argentina and Barcelona midfielder Javier Mascherano in November.
Former Barcelona players Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba are on their squad.
