Bellingham and Foden out of Tuchel’s latest England squad with Jack Grealish not making the squad as well.
Bellingham and Foden left out of England squad but Bukayo Saka returns.
For the friendly against Wales and the World Cup qualifier in Latvia, Thomas Tuchel has chosen to stick with the England team that defeated Andorra and performed well in Serbia last month. Bellingham and Foden have been left out of his camp.
Bellingham has back to Real Madrid following shoulder surgery, and Foden was fighting for a recall after finding his form again at Manchester City, but the head coach has chosen not to choose two of the nation’s best attacking players. Bellingham has made just one start for his team.
In place of his injured Arsenal teammate Noni Madueke, Tuchel has made room for Bukayo Saka, who is fully recovered. No recall has been issued for Jack Grealish.
Last month’s squad had a lot of enthusiasm, and Tuchel seems to want to keep it up. Due to a knee injury, Tino Livramento, who started at left-back in the 5-0 victory in Belgrade, has withdrawn. John Stones, who had to withdraw last month, was chosen by Tuchel in lieu of a straight replacement for the Newcastle midfielder. Tuchel has discussed the value of the Manchester City defender for England and recommended starting him in the middle of the pitch.
Adam Wharton, who was called up last month but withdrew due to injury, has no place; Ruben Loftus-Cheek has taken his position.
In explaining his choice to remain with the club from last month, which he feels had the best spirit and teamwork during his tenure, Tuchel stated that “team spirit is the key factor in the end.” He said that his connection with Bellingham, Foden, and Grealish was trouble-free and that Bellingham had expressed his desire to be called up in a “straightforward” phone conversation.
“He’s a very special player and for special players there can always be special rules but for this camp we decided to stick with our straightforward decision to invite the same team,” Tuchel said. “He deserves always to be in camp. I think there is on top of it the situation that he has not gathered full rhythm yet. He is back in the team but he hasn’t finished one full match.”
“This is more about last camp and what we started to build.” He was clear there was a way back in for them all via club performances but that no one would be picked on reputation.
