Bellingham to miss start of season after shoulder surgery.
Jude Bellingham, a midfielder for Real Madrid and England, is anticipated to have shoulder surgery following the Club World Cup, which will keep him out of action for at least the first six weeks of the upcoming campaign.
Real has scheduled the operation for once the U.S. competition is done. The 21-year-old has been dealing with a recurring shoulder issue since 2023.
After hurting his shoulder against Rayo Vallecano at the end of 2023, the former Birmingham City midfielder missed two games for both Madrid and England. Since then, he has worn strapping on his shoulder while playing for both his club and England.
Bellingham is anticipated to miss England’s World Cup qualifying matches against Andorra and Serbia in September, as well as the all of preseason and at least the first six weeks of the new season.
There are still uncertainties around the selection of players who are scheduled to play in the Club World Cup, but England manager Thomas Tuchel will announce his team on Friday for the June qualifier against Andorra and friendly against Senegal.
Bellingham, who cost £115 million to sign from Borussia Dortmund, had a spectacular debut season in Spain.
He scored 23 goals in 43 games, helping Madrid win both the La Liga and Champions League titles.
This season, though, he has scored just 14 in 52, with Madrid losing the title to Barcelona and being knocked out of Europe in the quarter-finals by Arsenal.
