Bihar name Vaibhav Suryavanshi as vice-captain for Ranji trophy only for the first two rounds of the Ranji Trophy.
Suryavanshi, still only 14, named Bihar Ranji Trophy vice-captain.
Bihar’s vice-captain for the first two rounds of the Ranji Trophy 2025–26 season, which begins on October 15, is Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Batsman Sakibul Gani will be the team’s leader.
After a BCCI directive forced the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) to make a last-minute rush to appoint a selector on an ad hoc basis to join a two-member panel, the appointments were made just two days before the season began. A five-member selection panel must be appointed by the BCA as soon as possible.
After an impressive run of play for India Under-19 during the tour of Australia, when he helped get things started quickly up top, Suryavanshi was promoted. He finished as the second-highest run-scorer in the multi-day series, scoring 133 runs in three innings as India triumphed 2-0, after smashing a 78-ball century in the opening four-day match in Brisbane.
Before that, Suryavanshi was also a member of the England team, scoring 143 in Worcester this July—the quickest century in young one-dayers. He easily finished as the series’ top run scorer with 355 runs at a strike rate of 174.01 in five games.
Suryavanshi, who was 13 when he was selected as the youngest player in IPL history, played seven games in the 2025 season, all of which were openers. At a strike rate of 206.55, he scored 252 runs.
With no victories at the end of the 2024–25 season, Bihar had a terrible season. They only scored one point in seven games, losing six of them handily to be demoted. Bihar, a member of the Plate League, will play Arunachal Pradesh in Patna to start the season. On October 25, they will play Manipur in Nadiad.
Due to his temperament and ability to score runs, Suryavanshi has drawn appeals to join India’s more established first-class organisation. Rumours of a potential Bihar transfer have surfaced. In order to go back into the Elite League, the BCA is eager to do everything in their power to keep Suryavanshi.
Given that he is also vying for a spot in India’s squad for the Under-19 World Cup in early 2026, Suryavanshi is unlikely to play for the entire Ranji season.
