Brahim Díaz continues scoring run as Morocco survive Tanzania to make it to the quarterfinals of the AFCON.
At the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Brahim Díaz scored his fourth goal for Morocco, helping the hosts defeat Tanzania 1-0 in Rabat to advance to the quarterfinals.
Morocco controlled possession, but Tanzania had chances to stun everyone, and Brahim’s brilliant goal was enough to secure a spot in the round of eight.
On minute sixty-four, Brahim was supplied on the right side of the box by Morocco’s captain, Achraf Hakimi. The Real Madrid winger made his way to the byline before firing into the goal from a tight angle when most had anticipated a cross.
Simon Msuva and Feisal Salum missed crucial opportunities for the east Africans, who qualified for the round of 16 as one of the top four third-placed teams despite losing all of their group games. Walid Regragui’s team was fortunate that Tanzania was also wasteful.
The host team’s performance was everything but vintage; they haven’t yet found their best form at the tournament, but they managed to keep their campaign moving forward. “We faced our toughest opponent in this Tanzanian team, and the competition is heating up,” Brahim remarked.
“Not everything worked, we know that, but fortunately we managed to secure our qualification [to the next round],” Brahim, who is now the tournament’s top scorer, added. “Now, we are going back to work to be fully ready for the quarter-finals.”
