Brentford set to sign Henderson after Ajax exit.
Jordan Henderson, an England midfielder who left Ajax earlier this week, is expected to sign with Brentford.
The Dutch team decided to terminate the 35-year-old’s contract one year early, therefore he will join the Bees on a two-year contract.
Top clubs in England and Europe showed a lot of interest in Henderson, but Brentford emerged victorious in the competition to recruit the former Liverpool captain.
Henderson will have the opportunity to remain in Thomas Tuchel’s England team prior to the World Cup next summer by playing in the Premier League.
The midfielder with 84 caps for England will fill the void created by Christian Norgaard, the previous captain of the Bees, leaving for Arsenal.
Henderson, who left Liverpool in 2023, will be back in the Premier League with the transfer to Brentford.
Henderson won the Premier League, the club’s first league title in thirty years, the FA Cup, two League Cups, the Club World Cup, the Uefa Super Cup, and the Community Shield during his twelve years at Anfield.
After leaving the Reds to join Al-Ettifaq, Henderson spent less than six months in the Saudi Pro League before joining Ajax in January 2024.
Despite playing more than fifty games for Ajax, he left the team when PSV Eindhoven was declared the league champions on the last day of the previous campaign.
Henderson hadn’t played for England since 2023, thus he wasn’t included in Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad.
Henderson has made three appearances in each of the German’s teams since Tuchel was named head coach of England in January.
