[Saba Sports News] Having pulled off a remarkable move to acquire Damian Lillard, the Milwaukee Bucks are now looking to bolster their roster with a top-notch complement for him.
According to a report by Jake Fischer of Yahoo! Sports on Tuesday, veteran guard Cameron Payne is being considered as an option by the Bucks as they seek to enhance their depth behind Lillard. Payne, who became a free agent after being traded from Phoenix to San Antonio earlier in the offseason and subsequently waived by the Spurs, is now in the Bucks’ sights.
The Bucks orchestrated a complex, multi-team trade to secure Lillard’s services earlier in the day, which required them to part with several players. Consequently, they find themselves with an open roster spot after sacrificing Jrue Holiday and Grayson Allen, in addition to draft-pick compensation, to acquire Lillard. Milwaukee also suffered the loss of backup point guard Jevon Carter to the Chicago Bulls in free agency earlier this offseason.
Cameron Payne, 29, is known for his explosive drive-and-kick style of play, capable of making shots off the dribble and singlehandedly sparking a second unit with his offensive prowess. Last season, he averaged 10.3 points and 4.5 assists per game coming off the bench for the Suns, making a significant contribution to Phoenix’s journey to the 2021 Finals.
While the Bucks have yet to finalize their decision regarding the open backcourt roster spot, Payne presents a compelling case for being the chosen candidate.
