Casemiro announces decision to leave Man United at season end, bringing a close to his 4-year stay in Manchester.
Due to the club’s decision not to initiate a one-year extension, Casemiro will depart Manchester United when his contract expires in the summer.
In order to give themselves time to develop their summer transfer strategy, United has decided to split apart at this moment. As part of a squad makeover, there is a desire to revitalise the midfield with the long-term goal of acquiring younger players.
Casemiro makes around £430,000 a week, therefore his departure will free more money for new players. United’s midfield shortlist includes Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace, Carlos Baleba of Brighton, and Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest.
In order to ensure his future move, Casemiro, who paid £70 million to join from Real Madrid in 2022, wanted his departure to be revealed this month. After representing Brazil at the World Cup, he intends to continue playing, and clubs in Major League Soccer, Saudi Arabia, and his native country are interested.
“I will carry Manchester United with me throughout my entire life,” Casemiro, who turns 34 next month, said. “From the first day that I walked out at this beautiful stadium, I felt the passion of Old Trafford and the love that I now share with our supporters for this special club. It is not time to say goodbye; there are many more memories to create during the next four months. We still have a lot to fight for together; my complete focus will, as always, remain on giving my everything to help our club to succeed.”
Casemiro had a difficult time at United during his stint in the Premier League, but he will take home the FA Cup and Carabao Cup winners’ medals. He has played 146 games for United and scored 21 goals, including the first goal in the team’s 2023 Carabao Cup final victory over Newcastle.
