Chen Long (born 18 January 1989 in Shashi, Hubei Province) is a retired Chinese badminton player who won the gold medal in men’s singles at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. Technical characteristics are good at defense and counterattack, assault and explosive force. He is married to fellow badminton player Wang Shixian.
Born in Shashi city, Hubei Province [note 1] Chen Long has been very talented badminton since childhood, only 7 years old Chen Long entered children’s sports school in 1996; In 2000, he was transferred to Xiamen City, Fujian Province and entered the Xiamen team. He was selected to the National Youth Badminton Team in 2005. He was selected to the National Second team in 2006. In January 2007, he won the gold MEDALS of men’s team and men’s single on behalf of China at the Youth Olympic Games. In July, he won the runner-up of men’s team and the champion of men’s singles in the Asian Youth Badminton Championship. In November of the same year, he won the gold MEDALS of men’s team and men’s singles at the World Youth Badminton Championships. In March 2008, he was selected to the first team of the Chinese National Badminton Team.
