[Saba Sports News] Following the ODI World Cup 2023 final loss to Australia in Ahmedabad, discussions have emerged about the futures of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, especially as they haven’t played in any T20Is since the 2022 T20 World Cup. With the next T20 World Cup approaching, Hardik Pandya, who led the team in Rohit’s absence, has performed well, leading to speculation about Rohit’s return and his willingness to step aside for new players.
Chris Gayle has expressed that Rohit and Virat should have the autonomy to decide their future in T20 cricket, emphasizing their significant contributions to the national team. He believes the BCCI and selectors should respect their decision-making rights. Gayle’s comments were highlighted in a widely shared video on X.
“Those guys (Rohit and Virat) should make the call. They should give the opportunity to those guys to make the call and if those guys want to do, I am sure they will. Why not? They have done incredible service and they deserve to make a call of their own and I am sure they will be given that respect for what they have for the country. It’s phenomenal and fantastic. So, Virat and Rohit should have the say, I wanna do it or I don’t wanna do it. Give them the ownership,” Gayle revealed.
The Indian cricket team’s upcoming tour of South Africa, including T20I, ODI, and Test matches, is anticipated to shed more light on the situation and the selection decisions for the team’s future engagements.
