Co-owner of Hull City ladies accused of aggressiveness towards players along with making remarks about sex as well.
Daniel Johnson, co-owner of Hull City Ladies, has been accused of multiple instances of aggressive behaviour that left players scared of him.
As part of written evidence to support accusations against Johnson, the Football Association received a number of letters in early April regarding his alleged behaviour at the third-tier club, where he managed the first team prior to becoming a director and co-owner. Current and former players, club employees, volunteers, and sponsors were among those who wrote the letters.
The letters, some of which were headed “letters of no confidence” in Johnson and one that served as a “character reference,” contained allegations that Johnson frequently used foul language with players and fostered a hostile atmosphere in which women felt threatened. According to the letters, he repeatedly kicked footballs at players out of frustration.
Additionally, Johnson was accused of openly mentioning having slept with a team member in front of witnesses.
According to the letters sent to the FA, a number of players quit the team because they didn’t want to play for Johnson, and several members of the squad have stated that they will find another team if Johnson stays. Some sponsors stated that they would only reevaluate their decision to withhold support if Johnson was allowed to go.
An FA spokesperson said, “We are very concerned about the allegations raised with us, and we are in regular contact with the club and their legal representatives about this matter. We will continue to provide the club with support and guidance to ensure that these issues are appropriately addressed, and that the welfare of their players and staff is protected.”
