
Contrasting fortunes for the Women’s teams of UAE and USA as one gets ODI status while the other is stripped off it.
UAE and USA’s women teams have seen contrasting fortunes with regards to their ODI status.
On the list of 16 women’s teams with ICC ODI status for the 2025–29 cycle, which will take effect on May 12, the UAE has taken the position of the USA. With the exception of the United Arab Emirates, Thailand, the Netherlands, Papua New Guinea, and Scotland are the five Associate members among the 16 teams.
PNG and the Netherlands maintained their status based on their T20I rankings, while Thailand and Scotland secured their ODI status after qualifying for the recent women’s ODI World Cup. In the T20I standings, PNG is ranked 13th, while the Netherlands is ranked 15th. In the same rankings, Thailand and Scotland are ranked 11th and 12th, respectively.
Scotland defeated Thailand and the West Indies to finish fourth out of six teams at the World Cup qualifiers earlier this month in Pakistan. Thailand lost all five of their games and finished last. Bangladesh and Pakistan qualified for the World Cup, which India will host later this year. However, Pakistan is not anticipated to come to India and would instead play its matches elsewhere.
At the time of the yearly rankings update, the UAE reaffirmed their position as the next-highest-ranked Associate team in the ODI rankings, ranking No. 16 in the T20I table. or get or keep a rating, teams with ODI status must play at least eight ODIs over a three- or four-year span.
After the update, Australia’s margin over second-place England (279) increased from 18 to 20 rating points, solidifying their position as the top-ranked country with 299 rating points.
The USA is now playing Zimbabwe in a bilateral series; on Thursday, they won the first ODI by seven wickets, although they lost the T20I series 2-1. On Saturday, the second and last ODI will take place. Participating in a quadrangular T20I series that also includes hosts Thailand, Hong Kong, and Kuwait, the UAE is presently in Bangkok.
