Controversy in domestic competition forces BCB to commence investigation.
Concerns about the Bashundhara Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League 2024–25 match between Gulshan Cricket Club and Shinepukur Cricket Club prompted the Bangladesh Cricket Board to declare on Thursday that they had opened an investigation. On April 9, 2025, the match took place at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
Rahim Ahmed, a lower-order batsman, attempted a shot against Nihad Uz Zaman, a left-arm spinner, and danced down the wicket, but he was defeated by the turn of the 36th over. Remarkably, Rahim didn’t even try to get back into his crease. Instead, he simply strolled back to the dressing room after turning around.
Minhajul Abedin Sabbir tried to drive in the 44th over but missed entirely and lost his footing as Naeem Islam bowled a wide delivery well outside the off-stump. Alif Hasan Emon, Gulshan’s ‘keeper, retrieved the ball cleanly with the game on the edge, but missed the stumps on the first try. Like Rahim, Sabbir had been given plenty of opportunity to return to his crease, but he had not done so.
In a statement, the BCB said that the board is still dedicated to maintaining the integrity of the game and making sure that all cricket-related activities are fair and disciplined.
“The BCB wishes to reiterate its firm commitment to upholding the integrity of the game and maintaining the highest ethical standards in cricket. The Board has a zero-tolerance policy toward any form of corruption or misconduct that may compromise the spirit of the sport,” BCB said in a statement.
“The BCB Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) and the League’s Technical Committee have promptly initiated an investigation into the alleged irregularities associated with the match.
“The BCB remains committed to ensuring fairness and discipline in all cricketing activities under its jurisdiction and will take the necessary actions based on the findings of the investigation,” it added.
