County umpires report Shakib for suspect bowling action when the allrounder played one game for Surrey this season.
County umpires have reported Shakib al Hasan for a suspect bowling action. He has been asked to undergo analysis of his bowling action by the England and Wales Cricket Board.
Shakib, 37, made his first appearance in the Championship since a brief stint with Worcestershire in 2010–11. He ended up taking nine wickets for Surrey in an exciting match against Somerset at Taunton in September.
He had accepted a short-term contract as a left-arm spinner to support Surrey’s title challenge during a period when eight players, including their two front-line spinners, Will Jacks and Dan Lawrence, were away on England duty.
Although Shakib had an instant impact, he was unable to stop Somerset from winning by an incredible 111 runs. This momentarily halted Surrey’s progress towards their third consecutive Championship championship.
He bowled more than 63 overs during the match, and he was never no-balled for throwing. It has since come to light that the on-field umpires, David Millns and Steve O’Shaughnessy, thought his bowling motion was questionable.
Although Shakib is not prohibited from playing, talks are in progress to have him go through additional testing in a place that has been permitted. This is anticipated to happen in the coming weeks.
It is said to be the first time Shakib’s bowling motion has been scrutinised. Over the course of his two-decade career, he has taken 712 wickets in 447 international appearances. This including 246 in 71 Test matches.
Following protests that prompted his removal from Bangladesh’s Test squad to play South Africa in Mirpur last month on security reasons, Shakib’s international future is currently in doubt. He had previously been a member of parliament for the long-standing Awami League-led administration. Which was overthrown in July due to student protests.
