Cremer picked to play for Zimbabwe after seven long years in the T20I series against Afghanistan starting October 29.
Graeme Cremer returns to Zimbabwe cricket after seven years.
Graeme Cremer will return to international cricket after a seven-year absence after being selected for Zimbabwe’s T20I team, which will play Afghanistan in three matches beginning on October 29.
The 39-year-old former captain and legspinner Cremer last played for Zimbabwe in 2018. He moved to the United Arab Emirates, where his wife Merna is an airline pilot, and gave up cricket for golf. However, he went back home earlier this year and resumed playing in club competitions in an attempt to advance to the national team.
Cremer has been selected as the side prepares for the ICC event, despite missing out on being a member of the team that won the Africa Regional Qualifiers, which guaranteed Zimbabwe’s spot at the T20 World Cup next year.
With Cremer as the lone addition, replacing fast bowler Trevor Gwandu, Zimbabwe’s selectors have maintained faith in the same 15-man squad that won the qualifying event. Additionally, a press release from Zimbabwe Cricket stated on Friday that “Sean Williams remains unavailable as he continues to attend to personal matters.”
The only Test of the Afghanistan trip was held in Harare, where the entire series would be played. October 29 is the date of the first Twenty20 International, and October 31 and November 2 are the dates of the second and third.
The 2026 T20 World Cup will take held in India and Sri Lanka and will contain 20 nations. Most likely, it will take place in February or March.
