Croatia end Faroe Islands hopes with a 3-1 victory as they confirm their own qualification for the World Cup.
With a comeback victory over the Faroe Islands, who had little chance of qualifying, Croatia secured their spot in the 2026 World Cup.
Geza David Turi of Grimsby Town raced forward and had a shot deflected in to give the minnows the lead in Rijeka.
Seven minutes later, however, Josko Gvardiol scored a levelling goal for Croatia into the bottom corner.
Then, in his first international match since 2023, Petar Musa gave Croatia the lead from eight yards out.
Additionally, Nikola Vlasic secured the victory with a cross from Ivan Perisic.
Manchester City defender Gvardiol said: “Our goal was achieved with a game to spare in the qualifiers.
“We can proudly say we’ve qualified and we’re looking forward to it.
“We’ll travel to Montenegro for the final match in a relaxed manner, but with the intention of taking all three points, as every game is preparation for what awaits us in the summer.”
Faroe Islands boss Eydun Klakstein added: “I wish them all the best at the World Cup. They’re a small country just like us, and we always support nations like that at major tournaments.”
