Daryl Mitchell replaces Rohit as No. 1 ranked ODI batter.
In the ICC ODI rankings, Daryl Mitchell has overtaken Rohit Sharma as the top batter. After Glenn Turner’s dominance in 1979, this was only the second time a batter from New Zealand had held the top place.
Many modern greats, like Ross Taylor, Kane Williamson, and Martin Crowe, have been in the top five of the ODI batting rankings but have never held the top spot. Following his eighth ODI century against the West Indies on Sunday, Mitchell was promoted. However, he hurt himself during that inning and was sidelined for the remainder of the three-match series.
Temba Bavuma experienced a notable ascent as well, making his first appearance in the top five of the Test batting rankings. The captain of South Africa helped his team snap a 15-year streak without a Test victory in India by scoring the only half-century in harsh conditions in Kolkata. With 737 rating points, injured Shubman Gill is just outside of the top 10. The Test batting pack is led by Joe Root, who is getting ready to play the Ashes on Friday, and Harry Brook, an England teammate.
Marco Jansen, who has made significant contributions to the events at Eden Gardens, is ranked in the top five for all-rounders and just outside of the top ten for Test bowlers.
After taking six wickets throughout the game, Jasprit Bumrah is still ranked first, followed by Matt Henry and Noman Ali.
Legspinner Abrar Ahmed has risen 11 ranks to No. 9 on the bowlers’ rankings as a result of Pakistan’s 3-0 ODI series victory over Sri Lanka. Jofra Archer, Keshav Maharaj, and Rashid Khan continue to lead the group.
Jacob Duffy rose to No. 2 in the bowling rankings after taking the most wickets in the five Twenty20 Internationals that New Zealand played against the West Indies in November. Rashid is right behind him, while Varun Chakravarthy is ahead of him.
Three Indians – Gill (No. 4), Virat Kohli (No. 5) and Shreyas Iyer (No. 8) – alongside Rohit (No. 2) make up the top 10 in the ODI batting rankings. Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran is at No. 3.
