DC co-owner’s petition to move MI-DC game out of Mumbai with a yellow alert issued in the city citing heavy rains.
DC co-owner wants Wednesday game moved out in ‘quest for consistency’.
DC co-owner’s petition came after the IPL relocated the May 23 match between RCB and SRH from Bengaluru to Lucknow.
Given the potential for a washout or significant disruptions during Wednesday night’s high-stakes IPL 2025 match between the Delhi Capitals (DC) and Mumbai Indians (MI), DC co-owner Parth Jindal has asked the IPL to reschedule the game to a different city.
Both teams have a match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) remaining after this one, so if MI wins on Wednesday, they go to the playoffs; if DC wins, neither team advances and the battle for the final playoff berth moves into their remaining league games. The “virtual quarter final is also expected to be washed out,” Jindal noted.
The teams will divide points in the event of a washout, putting DC at 14 and MI at 15, respectively, ahead of their final games.
For the next four days, Mumbai is under a yellow alert, the second of four categories, which was issued by the Indian Met Department on Tuesday.
The IPL “relocated” the May 23 match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to Lucknow on Tuesday due to “unfavourable weather conditions” in Bengaluru, which prompted Jindal to make the request.
Jindal stated that moving the MI-DC match would also be “consistent” at that time.
“The forecast in Mumbai is for heavy rains and there is a strong likelihood that the game will be washed out,” he wrote. “Just as the game between RCB vs SRH has been moved out of Bengaluru in the quest for consistency and in the interest of the league it is my request that tomorrow’s game also be moved to a different location as we have known for the better part of 6 days that the forecast for 21st in Mumbai is for heavy showers.”
