Door left ajar for Pat Cummins to return as captain as Australia have delayed the announcement of their playing 11.
Cummins a chance for Gabba as Australia delay naming XI which keeps the door ajar for the skipper to return.
Pat Cummins is a chance of making an incredible return to Australia’s XI for the second Test against England at the Gabba with an official choice to be made by selectors on Wednesday afternoon following a thorough examination of the pitch.
Australia’s stand-in captain Steven Smith did not confirm the final XI on Wednesday’s news conference, saying the choice would be made later in the afternoon, leaving the door open for Cummins to get back as captain and also give rise to the potential of Australia excluding their sole specialist spinner Nathan Lyon.
“A whole heap of things I think are on the table,” Smith said. “We’ll wait and see what the wicket looks like, and from there we’ll determine a playing XI.”
“He looks pretty good to me the way he’s bowled in the nets,” Smith said. “Obviously, games are a different intensity, for sure, but he’s tracking really nicely. He knows his body well, and yeah, we’ll wait and see.”
