Dortmund fans take a stand against the “UEFA” mafia in their recent Champions league fixture against Celtic.
Dortmund fans have made their opposition to Champions League reforms clear with a huge tifo blasting European soccer’s governing body UEFA.
Before Tuesday’s encounter against Scottish team Celtic, the supporters held up a banner that said, “You don’t care about the sport, all you care about is money,” and behind one of the goals they had written the words “UEFA mafia!” A website link was displayed in another banner above, clearly indicating that the banners were about the Champions League revisions.
In order to accommodate four extra clubs, UEFA altered the format of Europe’s top league for this season. The league format has replaced the group stage, with each of the 36 clubs now competing facing eight opponents once during the competition’s opening phase.
Celtic supporters also flown Lebanese and Palestinian flags prior to Tuesday’s game.
Dortmund went on to beat Celtic handsomely with a 7-1 scoreline. Karim Adiyemi’s hat-trick was complemented by Guirassy’s brace. Emre Can and Felix Nmecha rounded off the scoring.
