[Saba Sports News] During the shareholder
meeting, Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke shared a financial report
revealing that they have incurred losses amounting to 151 million euros due to
the impact of the COVID-19. However, they remain resilient and are able to
navigate through these challenging times. Watzke emphasized that Dortmund
achieved significant sales of €500 million in the previous financial year,
including revenue from player transfers. He reassured stakeholders that
Dortmund’s financial situation is not a cause for concern. The editor
acknowledges Dortmund’s reputation for discovering and selling future star
players. This summer, Dortmund made a substantial profit by selling English
midfielder Jude Bellingham to Real Madrid in La Liga for a high fee of 130
million euros. In terms of recent performance, the editor highlights that
Dortmund’s 2020-2021 season was a disappointment. They had an opportunity to
win their first league championship in 10 years but relinquished the chance
after a 2-2 home draw with Mainz in the final stage of the league. The title
ultimately went to their rival, Bayern Munich.
