[Saba Sports News] Bangladesh’s young cricket sensation, Mehidy Hasan, dreams of replicating his exceptional performance from the 2016 Under-19 World Cup on the international stage. The all-rounder gained recognition by winning the Player-of-the-Tournament award in that prestigious event, where he scored 242 runs and took 12 wickets.
Mehidy, primarily known for his off-spin, has been honing his batting skills, positioning himself as a potential all-rounder. He demonstrated his improved abilities in both batting and bowling during the team’s tournament opener against Afghanistan, showcasing his growing maturity as a player.
“I have the dream of translating the performance of the 2016 Under-19 World Cup onto a big international stage,” Mehidy shared with reporters after the match.
His promotion to the number three batting position in recent warm-up matches against Sri Lanka and England reflects the team’s increasing confidence in his batting prowess. Mehidy attributes his success to mental preparation, saying, “I’ve been working hard on my batting, and I was mentally prepared to contribute in that aspect. The team’s support and the opportunity to play in different positions were significant for me.”
Adaptability is a crucial aspect of Mehidy’s approach, as he stressed the importance of being flexible with his role in the team. He’s ready to bat in various positions to benefit the team and make the most of any opportunity that comes his way.
Mehidy also credited skipper Shakib al Hasan for providing valuable advice during a drinks break, helping him regain his bowling form. “Shakib bhai told me not to bowl with a negative mindset and to maintain a positive outlook,” Mehidy noted. “In a tournament like this, a positive mindset is crucial, and it’s okay if I concede some runs as long as I challenge the batsmen. These little things make a big difference.”
