[Saba Sports News] The World Cup 2023 match between Australia and Australia was dominated by Temba Bavuma and Co.
The only moment where Australia seemed to have taken a lead in the match was the toss. However, as it turned out, their decision backfired. South Africa led by Quinton de Kock’s century posted 311 runs in the first innings at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium.
Australia, who are known for their fighting attitude, submitted quite easily as South African bowlers piled up the pressure on them right from the start of the second half.
Both the Aussie openers Mitchell Marsh and David Warner got out cheaply, leaving Australia at 27/2 in seven overs.
Steve Smith, who came out to bat at number three, also walked back to the pavilion in the powerplay. However, his dismissal was a rather controversial one.
On the fifth ball of the 10th over bowled by Kagiso Rabada, Smith shifted across the stumps to play a glance off a short-of-length delivery. He got beaten as the ball hit on the pad.
South Africa decided to take a review on this. Although it appeared as if the ball would went on to miss the leg stick, the HawkEye, surprisingly, showed three reds.
Smith could not believe it as he left the field shaking off his head.
At the time of writing, Australia’s score reads 169/8 in 39 overs. Pat Cummins and Adam Zampa are batting unbeaten at 21 and six runs respectively.
